Mongolia has become the second-largest producer of cashmere. Mongolian cashmere is renowned for its premium quality due to its exceptional softness and warmth. This superior quality is attributed to the harsh and cold winters that Mongolian goats endure, which prompts them to grow fine, warm cashmere over their bodies.
Bodio, a man from the countryside with in-depth knowledge and experience living among goat herders, selectively buys raw cashmere from herders to ensure the best quality. "The first step to producing excellent finished products is to start with the best quality raw material," he says. The acquired raw materials then go through careful processing stages to meet the company's primary goal of producing quality products.
Yaks originally come from Tibet and were first introduced to Mongolia alongside Buddhism, as monks used them for transport during their pilgrimages.
Yaks prefer living at high altitudes where it’s extremely cold. They appear almost comically overgrown with their exceptionally long and incomparably insulating hair. Due to their habitat and the cold weather they endure, yaks have developed uniquely warm down wool that repels humidity. Because of this quality, we are unable to dye yak down, resulting in a 100% natural and organic product. A recent study shows that yak down is 40% warmer than Merino wool and 17% warmer than cashmere.
Despite their wild appearance, yaks have little to no odor. Finished yak down is naturally resistant to absorbing scents and smells, making it ideal for activewear. Additionally, because it requires less frequent washing, your cherished yak sweater will outlast its wool or cashmere counterparts.
We process up to 40% of all yak wool collected in Mongolia. At every stage, we take meticulous care, enabling us to achieve an exceptionally soft touch in our finished products.
The Bactrian camel, with its two humps filled with fatty tissue (not water as popularly believed), is native to Mongolia. All of our baby Bactrian camel wool is sourced from offspring in this age range, primarily from the "Toroms," whose hair is longer and contains more down.
